Job Description

The Inventory Controller is responsible for managing, monitoring, and optimizing inventory levels across stores and warehouses. The main goal is to ensure the right stock is available at the right time, minimize stockouts, and reduce excess or obsolete inventory.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Inventory Management

    • Maintain accurate records of stock across all stores and warehouses.

    • Track stock levels, sales trends, and demand patterns.

    • Ensure timely replenishment of fast-moving items.

  2. Stock Audits & Reconciliation

    • Conduct regular stock audits and physical verification.

    • Investigate discrepancies between physical stock and system records.

    • Reconcile inventory variances and report them to management.

  3. Reporting & Analysis

    • Generate reports on stock levels, slow-moving items, and dead stock.

    • Analyze inventory trends to prevent overstocking or understocking.

    • Suggest purchasing or transfer recommendations based on demand patterns.

  4. Coordination

    • Work closely with store managers, warehouse teams, and procurement teams to manage stock efficiently.

    • Ensure adherence to company policies and inventory procedures.

  5. Process Improvement

    • Identify inefficiencies in inventory management and suggest improvements.

    • Implement best practices to optimize storage and reduce inventory costs.


Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of inventory management systems / ERP software.

  • Analytical and numerical skills for forecasting and reporting.

  • Attention to detail to prevent errors and discrepancies.

  • Ability to coordinate with multiple teams (store, warehouse, procurement).

  • Problem-solving skills to handle stock shortages or excess.


Qualifications

  • Educational Qualification: Usually a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or related field.

  • Experience: Typically 1–3 years in inventory management or retail operations (varies by seniority).


Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based within a store cluster, warehouse, or regional office.

  • Some visits to stores or warehouses for stock audits may be required.
